Tiny red bugs in your bathroom? They are probably Flour Beetles

If you have small red bugs in your bathroom, there are several possibilities. The potential of food-based pest infestation, however, should not be neglected in particular, the presence of flour beetles.

The flour beetle and red flour beetle are very similar in appearance. The best way to distinguish the two is by examining their antennas. The antennae beetle red flour to form a club with three segments, at the end, while the antennae of the flour beetle gradually enlarge toward the tip, ending in a club of four segments.

Another difference between the two beetles is that the red flour beetle (mainly in Southern states) is a powerful flight, while the mountain flour (mainly north of pests) does not fly.

As adults, two beetles are shiny reddish brown body that are about 1 / 8 inch long, flattened and oval. They have a very wide range, including food, flour, rice, cereals, spices, grains, nuts shelled, dried fruit, chocolate, beans and other similar materials.

Average life of both the beetle and red flour between 1 and 3.5 years. They have four stages of life cycle that includes egg, larva, nymph and adult. It is important to note that all four stages lifecycle can be found in infested grain products at the same time.

When female beetles of both species lay their small, egg whites, they do it in flour or other food materials. The eggs, which are covered with a sticky secretion, become covered the product and easily stick to the sides of bags, boxes and other containers.

In the larval stage, both species are small, slim and fit worm in appearance. When mature, the larva is 3 / 16 inches long and white, tinged with yellow.

Such as flour beetles and red flour pupate small, they gradually change from white to yellow, then brown. Shortly after turning brown, they are transformed into a adult beetle.

So now that we have identified the pest, the next question is:

Why is a pest that feeds on flour, rice and other cereal products in my bathroom instead of my kitchen?

The answer to above question is very easy you have a food source in your bathroom.

To eliminate the pest problem, simply delete the food source. At the bottom inspect your cabinets, drawers, cupboards and rodent poisons, treatments of septic tanks (powder or flake form), animals pet treats hidden carpet bag of rice heating, prescription drugs, etc. It can be a frustrating task, but with a little perseverance, you should be able to locate the source of your problem.
