The Whippet is a sensitive dog, smart and sweet. They make good watchdogs. They need plenty of exercise and a safe place to let them run would ideal. They are generally not to be trusted with other animals because they can be regarded as prey. They say they do well with other dogs and children, especially if they are well socialized in their youth. As a reminder, never leave a child unattended with a puppy or dog.
Size Approximate Adult
Adult size about (two years or more) of the Whippet is 17 to 20 inches at the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 18 to 28 pounds.
Special health considerations
Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Whippet is no exception. Be on the lookout for skin problems, stomach pain, sickness ocular genetics and sunburn. This disease list is information purposes only. She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for photos, boosters and check. Then, in adulthood, it should consult the vet for yearly shots and check. As she grows, and six years on, she should see the veterinarian twice a year for exams and shots. Remember, avoid feeding your dog sweets.
Grooming
The Whippet is a company smooth, short, tight and easy to care for coat. It must be brushed and rubbed with a damp chamois regularly. Brushing will help keep coat clean and healthy, avoid mats, help you keep an eye on his health and strengthen your emotional bond with her.
Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrushes for dogs. Brushing removes plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, tooth loss, bad breath and other serious illnesses.
Her nails may need to be examined for growth and cut regularly. Toenails grow back more slowly than toenails before.
Lifetime
The Whippet may live 12 and 15 years with proper nutrition, medical care and excellent living conditions.
History
The Whippet is Great Great Britain where they were used for hunting small game and later radcing fast. They were first registered by the American Kennel Association in 1888.
